The Immigration and Naturalization Laws of the United States of America

Before looking at the immigration laws of the U.S, it is crucial for us to understand what is meant by the term immigration. Immigration is the process of moving from one country to another for different reasons. It is the process by which a person applies for citizenship and a passport in another country, other than the country of their origin. In the United States, immigration is one of the reasons for population growth and cultural change. It should also be noted that aspects of immigration in the United States have caused a lot of controversy. Many people in the U.S are calling for strict laws and reforms as far as the law on immigration and naturalization is concerned. However, the legislators have to keep in mind the fact that immigrants also have rights, which need to be up held.
immigration and naturalization in the U.S are often hard to understand, especially for people who have just entered the country. People often spend a lot of money in their pursuit for green cards and visas. It is, therefore, noted that the process for application for a U.S passport is a complex one. It is essential to note that naturalization is a process through which a foreigner can become a citizen of the United States. Therefore, for an immigrant to become a citizen of the U.S, he needs to go through the naturalization process. It should, further be noted that it is only if a person qualifies to be a citizen of the U.S that they can go through the naturalization process.
The process of immigration and naturalization involves so many procedures, which include the passing of tests and submission of application forms among others. However, the most noteworthy thing to note in this process is the eligibility of the applicant to become a citizen. The factors influencing eligibility have been stipulated by the USCIS. These factors include eighteen years of age, U.S lawful and permanent resident, ethical and moral character and physical presence in the United States for a period of five years or more. Once all these are in place, the person qualifies to be a citizen and can, therefore, start the process of naturalization. In case you are not sure about your eligibility to apply, you can access the USCIS worksheet, which you can fill out and then be able to determine your eligibility. However, it is often advisable that you hire an attorney, who will be able to give you advice about the various procedures to take. The attorney will also be able to coach you in the questions that are likely to appear in the test and interview for naturalization. All in all, if you qualify to be a citizen, you also qualify to apply for naturalization.
The form that you need to complete for naturalization is referred to as the N-400 form. Along with this form, you must also submit two passport photos, an application fee and a few other required documents.
